ELOPEMENTS

Because sometimes good things come in small packages.

More and more couples are choosing to scrap the large guest list, hiring a venue and seating plan riddles to instead hold a ceremony that is romantic, intimate and focuses purely on the love between them. The guest list is minimal, and often the ceremony is held in an exotic location. (Think barefoot in a forest or a private beach with just you, your witnesses, a photographer and your celebrant)  If this sounds like you, an elopement may just be the perfect fit.

Choosing to elope can be a brave decision (a really fun one too), so I’ve put together some guidance on how to organise the perfect elopement.

  1. As with all weddings we will need to complete your Notice of Intended Marriage documentation at least 30 days prior to your wedding ceremony.

  2. Decide what type of elopement you want. To elope doesn’t necessarily mean to run away and get hitched under the guise of a holiday. You may want to surprise a close group of friends and family at your house warming, or even hold your ceremony in a local park with your fur babies. Think about things like how many guests you would like, is it going to be super intimate with just you, your witnesses and photographer or are you going to invite a few guests to join.

  3. Your ceremony style. Do you want to include personalised vows, have a reading, or will it be sharp and sweet? Casual or formal – will you exchange rings? Remember, the moment is yours, so let’s create something totally your style – the only formality that needs to be in every ceremony, regardless if it’s traditional or totally quirky ceremony, is the monitum and legal vows.

  4. The fun part, choosing where you want to elope. The beauty of Australia is just how many unique and breathtaking locations that are perfect for an elopement. Whether you want to say your vows on a clifftop lookout or rugged coastline, commit your life to your partner at a favourite winery or hidden away in rustic bushland – you really are spoilt for choice. I perform most of my ceremonies in South East Queensland and Melbourne but also happy to travel to all parts of Australia to officiate your love story.

  5. Often couples are so busy with their wedding ceremony plans that they forget to think about how they will tell all of their family and friends they have tied the knot. Will you surprise them with a party when you return, or maybe want to capture the moment on film. It’s always a great idea to plan for this prior to your ceremony.
